Argos & Homebase help raise 2m for people living with dementia

Alzheimer's Society is proud to announce that our partners, Argos and Homebase have managed to raise a staggering £2 million for people living with dementia.

The money raised from the partnership, which runs from 2013 – 2015, will fund local services to help people with the condition stay in their own homes and be part of community life for longer.

The sensational fundraising milestone is testament to the thousands of colleagues and customers all over the UK and Republic of Ireland who have got behind the charity partnership in a variety of fundraising activity. Ranging from collections in-store to colleagues trekking the Great Wall of China, the engagement of customers and colleagues has been phenomenal.

Amy Whidburn, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Home Retail Group said:

'We are really pleased to have reached the £2 million milestone and so proud of all our fundraising efforts. Argos and Homebase colleagues have been terrifically engaged and evidently they have been fantastic in their fundraising activities.

'By 2015, there will be 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and we know that the condition is close to the hearts of many. These funds will go towards helpingpeople with dementia stay in their own home and be part of community life for longer.'

Jeremy Hughes, Alzheimer's Society Chief Executive, said:

'I am absolutely delighted by the efforts of Argos and Homebase in their fundraising to improve the lives of those living with dementia. £2 million is quite a milestone and as a charity, we rely on the funds collected by partners like Home Retail Group to carry out our vital work.

'Dementia is likely to affect over one million people by 2021 and the money raised by Argos will help Alzheimer's Society provide more indispensable services to people with dementia, and their carers.'

Argos fundraising will go towards helping thousands of people with dementia stay in their own home and be part of community life for longer. Together Alzheimer's Society, Alzheimer Scotland and The Alzheimer Society of Ireland are Argos and Homebase's charity partner 2013 – 2015. The money raised by Argos and Homebase colleagues and customers will fund Singing for the Brain groups, Dementia Cafés and Dementia Support services around the UK and Ireland.
