The new i100 Retail Price Basket

From the beginning of June 2018, Insight DIY have been tracking on a fortnightly basis, the retail prices of 100 of the best selling, branded and own label products across the UK Home Improvement retailers, B&Q, Homebase and Wickes.

The carefully chosen 100 identical or directly comparable products are from a broad cross section of product categories including Painting & Decorating, Timber & Doors, Hand & Power Tools, Tiles & Tiling Accessories, Electrical, Lighting, Building & Hardware, Heating & Plumbing, General DIY and Outdoor & Garden.

The numbers shown below are the add-up of the total basket values, if a consumer purchased one of each of the 100 products on the same day in each of the three retailers. The value is the total value of the most recent basket and the history shows how many times each retailer has come first, second or third in the basket comparison.

Every fortnight, we intend to publish the total basket comparison numbers within this section of the website and within the Insight DIY weekly newsletter, which you can signup for here.

To have unlimited access to the make-up of the Insight 100, the list of individual products and retail prices and to have the new basket emailed to you every fortnight, the cost is £250 per month and you can sign up for this here.

The Insight 100 enables us to accurately track over time, retail price inflation within the UK Home Improvement Market. It also means that we can identify when the retailers make significant changes to their retail prices as well as of course, providing accurate information on which of the three retailers really is the most competitive. Subscribers are emailed the latest baskets as soon as they are available.

Every effort is taken to ensure that the prices are accurate and that the basket contains only identical or directly comparable products across the three retailers, irrespective of the brands stocked.
