Aldi to Open 130 New Stores in Next Two Years

German discount retail chain Aldi has reported sales of £10.8bn in 2017, up 16% from the 2016 figure of £8.74bn. It also reported a 7.5% rise in customer numbers, reaching 15.8m.
The retailer also confirmed it is to open 130 new stores in the next two years and is to make 'major investment' in new and existing distribution centres. The expansion is expected to create around 5,000 jobs across the UK and Ireland and cost in the region of £1bn to put in place.
Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, Giles Hurley, said: "The revolution in British grocery shows no sign of slowing. While other grocers introduced more complexity into their businesses in their struggle to win back customers, we stuck to our guns and focused on doing what Aldi does best – buying smart, staying lean, improving quality and keeping prices low."
