Argos owner considered Blacks bid

Home Retail Group, the owner of Argos and Homebase, was one of the parties interested in bidding for Blacks Leisure, The Daily Telegraph has learned.
Blacks said today that it had pulled the plug on a potential sale process as none of the would-be bidders came up with any decent offers. However the fact that Home Retail, which has been struggling of late, ran the sliderule over the camping chain is interesting.

Last year it was rumoured that Home Retail would be subject to a break-up bid. It was speculated that Asda could buy Argos. Now it looks like Home Retail is seeing attack as the best line of defence. By expanding, it could ward off any potential suitors.

Thank you for the excellent presentation that you gave at Woodbury Park on Thursday morning. It was very interesting and thought-provoking for our Retail members. The feedback has been excellent.
