Asda applies to move in with B&Q in Redditch
SUPERMARKET giant Asda has confirmed it will be applying to open a store in Redditch.
The proposed store would see existing B&Q site in Jinnah Road will be converted into a 'new format' B&Q store and a new ASDA Superstore.
Asda is proposing a superstore of approximately 50,000 sq ft, creating around 400 jobs, and is currently in discussions with Redditch Borough Council about the pre-application process.
Dates for a public consultation exhibition will be announced shortly and a planning application submitted afterwards.
Doug Wilson, head of UK property communications, said: "We are delighted to be able to bring forward our proposal to open a new store in Redditch. I am sure that local people will welcome the new jobs the store will bring to the area and we look forward to consulting with the local community on the plans in the near future."
The proposed conversion of B&Q will create up to 400 jobs and the store will remain open throughout the conversion works.
Heidi Reynolds, divisional director of South West, said: "We want to offer our Redditch customers the best that we can in home improvement and the new size store will include new features and services that will not only inspire customers but will also help them to undertake their home improvement projects.
"This deal will enable us to continue to serve our Redditch customers to the highest possible standard and we are committed to working with ASDA to enhance the whole shopping experience on the site."
