B&M Opens In Former B&Q Store In Galashiels

896 BM Stores Galashiels

At 8am on Friday 20th June 2025, B&M store colleagues gathered outside their brand-new store in Wilder Haugh, Low Buckholmside, Galashiels, to officially open the doors and welcome in their first customers.

The launch of this new store serves as a significant boost to the local economy, creating 50 new jobs for local people and providing the community with exciting bargains to shop across a range of departments.

B&M’s store manager stated: “We’re thrilled about being able to create more jobs for local people, and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store.”

After taking possession of a former B&Q store, the discount retailer gave the now inhabited unit a comprehensive internal and external refurbishment before opening, which now provides a sales space of 24,278sqft. and has produced the famous B&M layout that everyone knows and loves.

Customers can expect to find a wide variety of branded groceries for the best possible price including a range of food, drink, and pet food. There will also be a fantastic selection of quality health & beauty products, homeware, electricals, DIY essentials, toys, games, gifts, and plenty more to explore.

Alongside fantastic home products, your new B&M Galashiels store is also proud to host its own 8,633sqft garden centre, selling hundred of plant varieties and gardening essentials for green fingered locals.

For the grand opening of B&M Galashiels, store colleagues were asked to nominate a local charity who they think deserves the spotlight for all the hard work they do in the local community. They chose the team from Brothers of Charity Services Scotland to take centre stage and officially unveil the new B&M store with a ceremonial ribbon cut, before customers were welcomed in through the doors for the first time.

Brothers of Charity Services Scotland provide compassionate, person-centred support for people with learning disabilities, helping individuals live with dignity, independence, and inclusion. Their wide range of services is designed to reflect the needs of those they support – from helping people live independently in their own homes, to offering respite and complex care, to supporting employability and life skills for young adults. They also invest in the development of their staff to ensure the highest standards of care across all areas of their work.

B&M’s store manager also commented:Brothers of Charity Services Scotland really stood out for us, so we wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work that they have done. We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work they do.”
