B&M Opens New Stores In Former Homebase Units

In recent weeks, B&M has issued press releases for a number of new stores which have opened up in former Homebase units:
Chatham, Kent
At 8am on Friday 6th May B&M were delighted to announce the opening of a new discount store in Chatham, Kent!
The new store, located on Horsted Retail Park, was previously a former Homebase site. After taking possession of the site the B&M team began extensive internal and external refurbishment. Upon completion, the new store now spans over 20,000sqft along with a 9,250sqft mezzanine sales floor.
The opening of the new store also brought a welcome boost to the local economy with the creation of 80 new jobs.
Customers can expect to find a wide variety of branded groceries for the best possible price including a range of food, drink, and pet food. There will also be a fantastic selection of quality health and beauty products, homeware, electricals, DIY essentials, toys, games, gifts, and plenty more to explore.
The store will also boast its own 10,300sqft garden centre, selling hundreds of plant varieties garden essentials.
The store manager from B&M said: “We’re feeling extremely positive about the creation of more jobs for local people, and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store.”
The colleagues were asked to nominate a local charity they think truly deserves some VIP treatment for the work they do for the local community. They chose the team from Medway Foodbank to take centre stage and officially unveil the new B&M store.
Medway Foodbank don’t think anyone in the community should have to face going hungry. They provide three day’s nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred in crisis. 6970 children have been fed and 5120 food parcels were given out by Medway Foodbank in 2023.
The store manager also commented: “Medway Foodbank really stood out for us, so we wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work that they have done. We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work they do.”

Arelston, Telford
This morning at 8am on Saturday 31st May, B&M store colleagues were gathered outside their brand-new discount store to officially open the doors and welcome in their first customers.
Located in Wrekin Retail Park, Arelston, Telford, the discount retailer now inhabits a former Homebase store, which provides a space of 20,968sqft. along with a mezzanine sales floor of 10,359sqft. after undergoing a comprehensive internal and external refurbishment programme.
The store also boasts its own 9,850sqft. garden centre, selling hundreds of plant varieties and gardening essentials for green fingered locals.
The launch of this new store has created 32 new jobs for local people, significantly boosting the local economy while providing the community with their favourite brands at the best possible price.

Telford Crisis Support is an independent, volunteer-led, holistic support charity centred around a core foodbank service. Over time, Telford Crisis Support has evolved to add and incorporate a range of additional support service to tackle the growing issue of poverty in the local community. They have developed to become a vital support provider to the community across the borough of Telford & Wrekin and the surrounding Shropshire border area.

This morning at 8am on Friday 30th May 2025, B&M colleagues gathered outside their brand-new store to welcome in their first customers.

They cover Clevedon, Nailsea Portishead, and the surrounding towns and villages. Each food parcel provides 3 days emergency food to people in crisis. They also provide lunch bags to children during the school holidays. Each lunch bag offers one weeks’ worth of non-perishable food items.

Located at the Tweedbank Retail Park, B&M took possession of a former Homebase store. After completing extensive internal and external refurbishment the new store now boasts over 28,000sqft of top-quality shopping space along with a mezzanine sales floor of over 7,000sqft.

Last year, Nourish Community Foodbank provided almost 160,000 meals to people in food crisis. They are a lifeline that shows people care, with donations of food and money from people in the community allowing Nourish to support local people who are struggling.

After taking possession of a former Homebase, the unit has since undergone an extensive internal and external development program to accommodate B&M’s range of exciting products. It now provides a sales space of 8,267sqft. featuring the famous B&M layout everyone loves.

County Durham & Sunderland Foodbank works to help local people in crisis. They don’t think anyone in the community should have to face going hungry so provide three days nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred in crisis. County Durham & Sunderland Foodbank have supplied 18,341 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis in the last year and rely on the support of the local community for food donations, volunteering and finances.

On Thursday the 15th of May at 8am, B&M was delighted to open a brand new store in Hexham, Tyne Valley.
After taking possession of a previous Homebase store the B&M team relocated to the bigger site and immediately began extensive refurbishment. The new store now boasts over 17,000sqft of top-quality shopping space along with a 7,000sqft mezzanine floor.
The new store has also brought a boost to the local economy with the creation of 20 new jobs.

Tynedale Hospice provides high quality care and support to approximately 70,000 residents of West Northumberland, Tynedale, and Ponteland.
