B&Q and Nichia settle LED lawsuit
In June of this year, Nichia, a Japanese manufacturer of LEDs, filed a patent suit against B&Q, claiming that the retailer had breached three European Patents: 0936682, 2197053, and 2276080, all relating to B&Q’s sale of LEDs that use YAG-based phosphor.
Nichia claimed that its patented LED chips and the associated manufacturing process were being illegally copied, and as part of the lawsuit, Nichia sought damages and an injunction against further infringement.
An agreement was reached between the two companies, and while B&Q made a payment to Nichia, no admissions have been made.
B&Q and Nichia are also understood to have agreed to enter into future business discussions.
