B&Q One Planet Home wins Retail Week's ‘Responsible Retailer of the Year’

One Planet partner B&Q was named as Retail Week magazine's Responsible Retailer of the Year for its One Planet Home initiative.

In November 2007, BioRegional and B&Q began a partnership to help B&Q become a world leading One Planet Company. BioRegional is helping B&Q to reduce its impact on the world’s resources and make it easy for B&Q customers to have sustainable homes and gardens through the One Planet Home® product range.

B&Q is the first retailer to join BioRegional’s One Planet programme.

BioRegional is working with B&Q on two sustainability action plans:

The operational plan looks at building on B&Q's heritage of sustainability against the ten principles of One Planet Living.

The customer plan helps B&Q’s customers achieve One Planet Living in their homes and gardens through a range of nearly 4,000 One Planet Home® products which are consistent with the ten One Planet Living principles:

- Zero carbon
- Zero waste
- Sustainable transport
- Sustainable materials
- Local and sustainable food
- Sustainable water
- Land use and wildlife
- Culture and heritage
- Equity and local economy
- Health and happiness

BioRegional is also working with B&Q to extend its current range of eco-products and develop new lines.

To add to the Responsible Retailer award, Kingfisher CEO Ian Cheshire was also named Retail Week's Retail Leader of the Year, making it a very successful evening for the retail chain!
