Brits Decide To ‘Deliveroo It Yourself’ This Summer As Orders For DIY Items Surge

B&Q Deliveroo

New figures released today by Deliveroo reveal a surge in demand for home improvement products, as more British consumers turn to DIY projects this summer.

Comparing order volumes across 1 June to 17 August 2025 with the same period in 2024, Deliveroo has recorded six times as many orders for painting & decorating equipment, a fivefold increase in the amount of nails, screws, and fixings sold, and three times as many orders for hand tools.

The top ordered items this summer include paint brush sets, mini paint rollers, builders buckets, screwdriver sets, solar lights, duct tape, and masking tape.

Deliveroo has more than tripled the number of B&Q and Screwfix stores on the platform over the same period, and customers across the country are taking full advantage, with sales of DIY products outpacing the growth in stores.

The trend reflects a growing appetite for home improvement as owners look to boost the value and appeal of their properties amid a cooling housing market.

UK home prices are almost £11,000 cheaper than three months ago, with sellers competing for attention. Average asking prices fell 1.3% to £368,740 in August, according to new figures released last week (18 Aug). This follows larger-than-usual drops in price in June and July, with more than one in three properties having been reduced in price since first coming to market (link to Rightmove figures).

With the British public deciding that this summer is the moment to finish odd jobs or tackle a full renovation to add value to their homes, DIY has emerged as Deliveroo’s fastest-growing retail category.

By combining a wide product range with rapid delivery, Deliveroo Shopping has removed the need for last-minute trips to the store, helping people get more done in less time and with less hassle. Over the last two years, Deliveroo has partnered with leading retailers such as B&Q, Wilko, Screwfix, and independent DIY outlets to meet nationwide demand.

The offering forms part of Deliveroo Shopping, launched in 2023 to expand the company’s scope beyond meals to include gifts, groceries, and non-food products, now with more than 450 DIY stores available across the UK.

The B&Q partnership offers customers on-demand access to over 9,500 products, with delivery available in as little as 25 minutes*. Items span categories including interior and exterior paint, decorating supplies, painting tools, plumbing equipment, electricals, bathroom essentials, hardware, and general tools.

Carlo Mocci, Chief Business Officer at Deliveroo, said: “Brits are seizing the summer months to tackle home improvements and add value to their homes, and our growing network of DIY partners means they can get exactly what they need, exactly when they need it. Who wants to leave the house mid-way through a DIY project for extra paint or for a specific tool?

“With thousands of DIY essentials available for delivery in as little as 25 minutes, we’re making it easier, faster, and more convenient than ever to get jobs done, without hitting pause on your project.”

Ana Hernandez Rubio, B&Q Director of Strategy said: "We’re constantly looking at ways we can enhance the experience of our customers. Through our partnership with Deliveroo we are able to help meet the increasing consumer demand for speed and convenience and ultimately help our customers with their DIY projects at speed without them needing to leave home!"
