Currys PC World Planning Homebase Takeover in Guildford
Currys PC World has submitted an application to Guildford Borough Council for 'planning permission for physical works to improve Unit 1 at Ladymead Retail Park'.
Homebase currently occupies Unit 1 on the site and was not one of the 42 Homebase stores initially earmarked for closure, nor was it one of those identified in a later list, following the company's decision to launch a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) in August 2018.
Local press reported that Currys PC World had confirmed its intention to move to the unit, stating: “We’ll relocate our store on Woodbridge Road to Ladymead Retail Park after Christmas.
“At that point, our Woodbridge Road store will close and be handed back to the landlords who will decide on future plans for the site. All colleagues will be redeployed at the new store.”
Homebase head office declined to comment on the matter but did confirm that the company was aware of the planning application.
Managers at both stores declined to comment when approached by The Guildford Dragon News.
The planning application can be found here.
