Ex-Focus employees could be eligible for compensation
Hundreds of former employees of the DIY retailer Focus could be entitled to a sum of compensation pay.
That is according to Unite - the UK's largest trade union with 1.5 million members - which has today (June 19th) urged people who used to work for the chain to establish whether or not they are eligible for damages.
Last year, Unite was victorious in an employment tribunal against Focus on the basis the firm failed to properly consult the union prior to its collapse, which left many people unexpectedly without a job.
This case resulted in the ex-employees being awarded 90 days' worth of pay, but it then emerged that the maximum grant from the Redundancy Payments Office if 56 days.
With this in mind, Unite has urged people to contact the body and find out if they are in line for a settlement.
Caroline Crolley, regional officer at Unite, said: "We will need to put the claim to the Redundancy Payments Office on behalf of those employees that qualify for the compensation."
