Hailsham: Wickes store opening saves 24 jobs
Staff at a do it yourself store celebrated this week with the opening of Wickes’ new shop in Hailsham.
A total of 24 people were threatened with losing their jobs when the site’s former bosses Focus DIY pulled the plug on the Diplocks Way warehouse.
But a takeover by Wickes prevented widespread job losses and the store opened its doors for trading late last week.
Store manager Ben Jackson, said, “We have been pleased to save these jobs and impressed by the number of store colleagues who have been so enthusiastic about working with us.
“Working for Wickes offers huge opportunities including extensive in-store training and career progression within the company.
And Tim Matthews the companies retail director, added, “The new Wickes store is a major investment in the area and plays a significant role in our ongoing store opening programme across the UK.
“Hailsham needs a DIY store that‘s serious about home improvement.
“We offer a range of quality DIY and trade products for the local community, and we know that once a customer has visited one of our stores they will return time and time again to enjoy quality products, low prices and practical advice.”
The Hailsham store is open Monday to Saturday from 7am to 8pm and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
