Home Retail's ‘green’ claims come under fire over hosepipe prices

The FTSE100 parent company of Homebase claims corporate responsibility is “part of everything we do”. Really? Really?

Despite the on-going hosepipe ban in the South East, Homebase has been slashing prices on hosepipes. Very responsible.

Not to worry, next to the online sale is a section called “Water Wise” which lists ways to reduce water usage.

It includes tips such as, water the garden early in the morning or late at night to prevent evaporation, and remember to weed regularly and cut back overgrown plants.

But fails to recommend gardeners shouldn’t use hosepipes during a drought. It simply flogs them at bargain basement prices.

Homebase, quite contrary, how does your margin grow?
