House of Fraser plans Middle East expansion
UK-based department store chain House of Fraser is looking to expand in the Middle East, as part of its plans to reduce dependence on the UK.
The chain plans to unveil a new store in Abu Dhabi next autumn and intends to open more shops in the region, including in Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, Kuwait and Riyadh, according to The National.
The first outlet is expected to open in Aldar's Emporium next year, under a franchise agreement with Middle Eastern retailer Retail Arabia.
House of Fraser executive director of multi-channel and international Robin Terrell said the company is also weighing an expansion in other emerging markets to tap into accelerating economic growth.
The company has annual sales in excess of £1.3bn and operates 62 stores in the UK.
