IKEA Opens Third New Format Small Store

IKEA New Store

Located in Greyhound Retail Park, IKEA has opened the third of three new-format small stores in the UK.

These small stores offer a simpler, faster shopping experience for customers, with a takeaway food offering

IKEA has today, Thursday 9th October 2025, opened its store in Greyhound Retail Park, Chester, marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Sherin Akhta, as well as 35 co-workers from the store. The doors were then opened for the first customers to experience this brand-new format, with a compact layout that’s easy to navigate and designed for everyday convenience.

IKEA Chester is the third of three new-format small stores to open this year, following the opening of IKEA Harlow in July and the opening of IKEA Norwich in August.

The new retail park locations are designed to offer a simpler, faster shopping experience for customers, where they can explore inspiring roomsets, shop second-hand finds, and take home a wide range of home furnishings and small furniture items the same day. Dedicated planning services for kitchens and bedrooms are also available, supported by a team of knowledgeable co-workers ready to help customers design their dream spaces.

Along with the option to buy pre-loved items, customers can order from IKEA’s 12,000 strong product range, which can be delivered directly to their home or collected from the store, with free collection in 48 hours. Visitors can also enjoy a selection of Swedish food to eat in or take away.

In the store, customers can shop and browse from the latest collections and iconic essentials, including:

·       METOD kitchens and PAX wardrobes

·       IVRIG glasses (£1.25)

·       DRÖNA storage boxes (£3)

·       RÖDALM picture frames (£7)

·       Swedish Meatballs (£5.95) and Hot Dogs (95p)

Andy MacGregor, Manager for IKEA Chester, said: “It’s been fantastic to open our doors and welcome the first customers into our new small store in Chester today, and we’re grateful for such a warm reception. We’re so proud to be part of the Chester community and hope everyone feels at home in our new store, whether they’re dropping in to browse, shop, plan their dream spaces, or tuck into our signature food.”

Sam Dixon, Member of Parliament for Chester North and Neston, said: "Chester is proud to be the newest home for IKEA. It is fantastic news for our city and the wider region, boosting our local economy, attracting visitors, and helping to secure Chester’s standing as a dynamic centre for retail and business.”

The opening of IKEA Chester comes after a landmark year of expansion for IKEA UK. It follows the recent opening of Plan and Order Points in Hull and York, small stores in Harlow and Norwich, and city stores in Brighton and on London’s Oxford Street.

IKEA Chester will be open Monday to Saturday 10am – 8pm and Sundays 10.30am - 4.30pm.
