Ipsos Study Shows Temu Winning Over UK Consumers

Temu UK statistics May 2025

A recent Ipsos study, commissioned by Temu, reveals that the ecommerce marketplace is winning over UK customers with 'value, variety, and opportunity'.

Temu's marketplace operation sells almost anything you can imagine, including clothing, cosmetics, gadgets, homewares, toys and technology, via its website and app, connecting global consumers with third-party sellers - predominantly based in China - who ship the heavily discounted goods directly to customers from their warehouses.

The business was founded in 2022 by Chinese ecommerce giant PDD Holdings and has headquarters in Boston and an office in Dublin.

Key points from the research include:

  • More than 8 in 10 British consumers say Temu offers good value, and 3 in 4 are likely to recommend it to others

  • On average, users reported saving 25% by shopping on Temu in 2024

  • 1 in 3 used Temu to decorate their home or office
  • Nearly 40% say they'll spend more on Temu this year

  • 14% have used Temu to start or grow a business

Temu is partnering with UK sellers to offer faster deliveries - Temu orders typically take up to ten days to arrive - and anticipates that by the end of 2025, half of its UK sales will be from local businesses.

Gregor Murray, VP strategy at Digital Commerce Global said: “This research shows that online marketplaces like Temu are leveling the playing field – opening the door for countless craft and specialist manufacturers and sellers to reach vast audiences and grow their businesses. That will have a significant impact as it shows these platforms aren’t just about selling stuff, they’re sparking economic action, creating opportunity, and driving competition.

“One of the biggest impacts of e-commerce has been giving everyone the tools to earn, build, and sell to a vast audience. Temu is accelerating this shift — and that will have a significant impact on traditional retailers, manufacturers, and, most importantly, end customers. In today’s economic climate, retail platforms are becoming launchpads for small business growth — and that’s a very positive thing,” added Murray.

A Temu spokesperson said:

"Temu is gaining trust with shoppers as it caps its second year in the UK, with more than 80% of respondents in a new survey saying that the platform offers good value for money. Consumers in the survey estimated they reaped savings of 25% on average by shopping on Temu in the past year, and four in ten say they plan to spend more on the platform in 2025."

"We're thankful that so many people across the UK are turning to us for their everyday needs. It's encouraging to see shoppers not only saving money, but also using the platform to support small businesses or start ventures of their own. We believe more people should have access to affordable goods and the opportunity to take part in the digital economy."
