Ireland’s Castlebar Homebase store to close

STAFF at Homebase, Castlebar, were officially informed yesterday (Monday) their store is to close.

Twenty-seven workers, six full-time and 21 part-time, will be affected by the closure.

Homebase opened in Castlebar in 2007.

Overall the company has not made any profit in the past five years.

Castlebar was one of three Homebase stores earmarked for closure after the High Court last month appointed an examiner to the chain.

The two other shops listed for closure are Carlow and Fonthill (Tallaght).

A spokesperson for Homebase explained yesterday (Monday) that ‘it is now proposed to commence the closure process’ for the Castlebar premises.

Staff, who already feared the worst, were briefed yesterday (Monday) morning on the company’s plans.
