Jeremy Bird promoted as Wickes look for new MD

Wickes md Jeremy Bird has been promoted to chairman of parent company Travis Perkins' retail arm.

The retailer has confirmed it is on the hunt for a new md, and is looking both internally and externally for the right candidate. However, nothing is set to change just yet, said the company.

A spokesperson for Wickes told DIY Week: "It's not going to happen for a while. It's business as usual and nothing's going to happen this year. It was an internal announcement on the plan for the future."

Mr Bird will head up a new 'retail division' at Travis Perkins, although the company restructuring has yet to take place.

Wickes recently bought 13 Focus stores for £8.4m, after the retailer entered administration in May.
