Kaboodle Kitchens Enters Liquidation
Kaboodle, which describes itself as the UK’s largest independent white goods installer, is set to enter liquidation just weeks after announcing plans to withdraw completely from the housebuilding sector due to ongoing market pressures.
The company’s commercial director, David Simpson, confirmed the closure in a LinkedIn post, describing the decision as the result of severe cash flow problems.
“I’m sad to formally advise that Kaboodle is to be liquidated as a result of cash constraints,” he said. “My thoughts and appreciation go to all those employees involved in the insolvency – it’s a distressing time for all.”
Simpson said the business had previously undergone a restructuring programme focused on shifting its attention towards the home installation market and away from housebuilders.
However, he also pointed to unpaid debts from one of the company’s biggest clients as a major factor behind the collapse.
“As an SME, cash flow is critical,” he said. “While most of our housebuilder customers worked with us to clear outstanding debt, one in particular – our largest customer – failed to pay substantial sums owed for goods and services provided. That has ultimately led to our demise.
“The loss of the business has cost dozens of people their livelihoods and brought down what was otherwise a viable company.”
It remains unclear how the liquidation will affect customers with outstanding orders or ongoing installations.
Former managing director and founder Matthew Pitt, who stepped away from the business earlier this year, also reacted to the news on LinkedIn.
“It’s very disappointing to see a business with strong foundations end up in this position,” he said. “There are a lot of talented people affected, and I hope they receive the support they need during what will be a difficult period.”
Pitt founded Kaboodle in 2005 after working as an installer himself. Over the past 20 years, the company expanded into a nationwide appliance installation operation with five depots across the UK. Kaboodle said more than 90% of its installers were directly employed and highlighted its apprenticeship partnership with North Hertfordshire College.
