Loughborough Homebase to close and be replaced by The Range

Loughborough is set to lose its Homebase store in Willowbrook Retail Park, Derby Road.

Home Retail Group, which runs Homebase alongside brands such as Argos and Habitat, has announced the proposed closure, which it says is “part of the normal management of our store portfolio”.

Subject to conditions, which it says includes successful consultation, planning consent and landlord consent, the store will transfer to another home, leisure and garden retailer, The Range.

A period of consultation is now running with around 35 members of staff.

The company has given a date for the closure and says staff will be invited for an interview at the new store, or could be transferred to nearby Homebase and Argos stores.

According to its online store locator, the nearest Homebase store is the Leicester branch, 11 miles away.

A store spokesman said: “This proposed closure is part of the normal management of our store portfolio.

“This announcement means there is a period of consultation for colleagues affected by this proposal.

“As part of our agreement The Range will invite all colleagues affected by the process for an interview. Where possible we will also look to redeploy any affected colleagues at nearby Homebase and Argos stores.”

The Echo tried to contact Laura Ashley, the national home furnishing business which currently has its own store in the Homebase premises, and also The Range company, but neither had been able to respond at the time of going to press.
