Matalan opens first Matalan Homestore

Matalan Homestore 725 x 500

Matalan has converted an existing store in North Yorkshire into the first ever Matalan Homestore.

The St James Retail Park branch in Knaresborough, which is 26,500 sq ft in size, now features room set displays and touchscreen devices.

Matalan is looking to expand its presence in the furniture and homewares categories, having made an initial foray into the sector with the launch of Matalan Direct last summer.

St James Retail Park is also home to Argos, HomeSense (part of the TK Maxx family) and Barket & Stonehouse.

In September 2015, Matalan Direct expanded its home improvement offering, adding beds and bedroom furniture to the existing bathroom range.

Earlier this year, the company revealed that for the full year ended 27th February 2016, total sales declined by 3% to reach £1.06bn, compared with £1.09bn in 2015.

Lucy Londesbrough, Store Manager for Knaresborough, said of the revamped store: "We are really excited that Knaresborough has been chosen to be the first ever Matalan Homestore. Our customers will benefit from seeing the Matalan furniture ranges up-close and personal as well as purchase matching, trend-led home accessories at the same time, making home interior renovations both simple and stylish!"
