Rhyl's Home Bargains store submits garden centre plans
The Home Bargains store in Rhyl could be getting a garden centre if plans get the go-ahead today.
The discount chain on Marsh Road has submitted a planning application to extend and alter their existing unit.
A report, set to go before Denbighshire's planning committee this afternoon seeks permission to demolish a disused building at the bottom of the car park.
It will then be rebuilt to create an additional retail area and garden centre.
It would mean the car park would lose 37 of its 168 spaces to accommodate the development.
While there has been no objection from Rhyl Town Council, Natural Resources Wales and Denbighshire Council's highways department, a petition with 26 signatures has been submitted citing concerns over increased traffic, litter and noise.
The report says: “There are residential properties located along the southern boundary of the site. Neighbouring residents have submitted a petition expressing concerns that the proposal will result in additional noise pollution and extra activity at the site.
“Officers also consider there is the potential for the outdoor retail area to be floodlit, and have music playing as is not uncommon at other uses of this type.”
But it adds: “In considering the proposals, impact upon residential amenity and the comments of neighbouring residents have been considered and noted. However, having regard to the existing situation, and potential planning conditions, it is considered the proposal would not result in an unacceptable impact upon the amenity of residents.”
Council officers have recommended that members of the planning committee approve the plans.
