Screwfix Celebrates 1,000 Store Milestone

Trade retailer Screwfix is celebrating opening 1,000 stores across the UK, Ireland and France.

The omnichannel retailer has enjoyed significant growth and has reached this major milestone after opening its first ever store in Yeovil in 2005.

There has been no stopping Screwfix’s expansion, as the retailer has opened on average one store a week for the last decade whilst growing internationally. In 2019, it opened its first stores in the Republic of Ireland and has since opened more than 40 stores, creating nearly 500 jobs.

In 2022, the retailer expanded into France, opening a distribution centre and its first stores, which now total 35.

In 2024 Screwfix also opened its new ultra-compact format, Screwfix City. The new format offers even greater convenience for busy tradespeople in City centres, offering a range of more than 3,000 essential products via Click & Collect with a further 31,000 available online for next day collection.

Screwfix CEO, John Mewett said: “We’re delighted to have opened our 1,000th Screwfix store. Since our first opening in 2005, we’ve continued to provide the ultimate convenience for tradespeople and build on our success in the UK to expand into the Republic of Ireland and France. Screwfix’s store network works hand in hand with its digital channels, giving customers unrivalled convenience through Click & Collect in as little as one minute, and Screwfix Sprint for rapid delivery to home or site in as little as 20 minutes via the Screwfix App.

As part of its growth, Screwfix employs over 14,000 colleagues across the business, providing in-house development through its own award-winning apprentice programme that sees 84% of retail colleagues earn a promotion upon completion.

Screwfix still has the goal to open over 1,000 stores in the UK and Ireland with the potential to up to 600 stores in France.
