Tesco in giant store and e-commerce software upgrade

Supermarket giant announces core apps platform for 4,000 stores.

Tesco is deploying the Retalix 10 Store Suite software across around 4,000 stores in 11 countries.

Retalix 10 is designed to unify the management of in-store systems, mobile commerce and online storefront channels.

The system ensures a "consistent and personalised shopping experience across all touch points and sales channels", said Tesco. These include point of sale (POS) terminals, self-checkouts, customer kiosks, fuel sales, mobile commerce and e-commerce. The system will also supports store and supply chain management applications.

Tesco has been a customer of Israel-based Retalix since 1995. Mike McNamara, chief information officer of Tesco, said: "Retalix 10 will form the foundation of our store technology. It's an extensible, service oriented architecture (SOA) that allows us to add new features and services for our customers at speed."

McNamara added: "Retalix is one of a very small number of technology companies who we regard as strategic partners in our efforts to improve the shopping trip for our customers."

Tesco, the UK's largest supermarket chain, saw overall group Xmas sales slip which resulted in a profits warning last week. The company has just signed up Capgemini to provide a global managed service responsible for the collection, processing and reporting of energy and carbon emissions data.
