Tesco to move into selling carpets
TESCO is aiming to break into another market - CARPETS.
Britain's biggest supermarket plans to flog a full range of hundreds of floor coverings over the web.
It follows recent moves into used cars and gold - and comes in the wake of riots in Bristol over Tesco's aggressive expansion.
High street chain CARPETRIGHT last month issued its third profit warning in three months.
But Tesco claims its "soft sell" approach will make its venture a success.
Customers can order samples or the full carpet online rather than being "brow-beaten" by a shop assistant.
Shoppers will have to hire a local fitter themselves.
The carpets come from Carpets at Home, a new offshoot of VICTORIA CARPETS.
Tesco DIY buyer Fabio Perrotta said: "People can take all the time they need to choose the right carpet.
