Tile Mountain Helps Schoolchildren Enjoy Spanish Learning Adventure

Pupils from St Mary's School on their Spanish trip with Tile Mountain

Tile Mountain has helped pupils from their neighbouring St Mary’s CE Primary School in Tunstall enjoy a memorable school trip to Spain, giving 38 Year 5 children the opportunity to bring their Spanish lessons to life.

The pupils, aged nine and ten, flew from Manchester to Valencia for a five-day educational visit, where they met children from a local school after developing Spanish pen pals as part of their learning. During the trip, the children also visited Bioparc Valencia, spent time at the beach and enjoyed a tour of Estadio de la Cerámica, the home ground of Villarreal CF.

Managing Director of Tile Mountain, Jeremy Harris, commented: “We are delighted to support our neighbouring school in being able to give the children such a memorable and meaningful experience. Learning a language becomes so much more powerful when children have the opportunity to use it in a real setting, meet other children and see a different culture first-hand.”

As part of the experience, Tile Mountain also arranged a visit to Spanish tile manufacturer Navarti Cerámica, where the children were welcomed as ‘little explorers’ and given the opportunity to see part of the tile production and export journey first-hand. During the visit, they saw tiles being packed and prepared for shipment to Tile Mountain’s Stoke-on-Trent headquarters, with the experience set to continue when the shipment arrives in the UK and the children visit Tile Mountain to see the tiles being received and unpacked.

Speaking about the trip, Fiona Green, Strategic Finance Lead at St Mary’s CE Primary School, said: “For our children most of them will have never travelled on an aeroplane and Tile Mountain has made this trip possible, making memories that for them will last a lifetime. St. Mary’s can’t thank them enough, especially the hospitality and experiences arranged for them in Spain.”

Tile Mountain, who has its headquarters in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, is the UK’s fastest growing independent tile retailer. The business has strong links to the local area and continues to support community initiatives close to its base in the city.
