Toolstation-Sponsored Podcast Focuses on CPR Ahead of World Heart Day

• Troy Deeney and British Heart Foundation take to talkSPORT to demonstrate CPR ahead of World Heart Day – sponsored by Toolstation 

Former Watford striker Troy Deeney teamed up with British Heart Foundation (BHF) on talkSPORT’s Hawksbee and Jacobs Daily podcast - sponsored by Toolstation - to deliver a demonstration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), urging listeners and tradespeople to learn the skills needed to help save a life ahead of World Heart Day (29th September 2026). 

Deeney and BHF Senior Programme Manager Lizzie Moscardini walked host Andy Jacobs through the crucial steps of CPR using the BHF’s 15-minute training tool, RevivR. 

The 15-minute segment highlighted the need for quick thinking action with a particular focus on those working in construction and within the trades section.  

Troy Deeney was personally affected by this with his grandfather passing away following a cardiac arrest, while his teammates at Walsall FC, Anton Reid, tragically died from a heart attack during training in 2007. 

Troy Deeney said: “I used to be a builder before football, at the age of 16 and I often asked myself what I would have done if this happened on site. No one taught me, there was no CPR or any of that type of training. You’ve got to know what to do. It would give you more confidence and it gives you a bit of a chance to save someone’s life.” 

Lizzie Moscardini , Senior Programme Manager at BHF said: “World Heart Day is an important reminder of what we can do to help protect our hearts and the hearts of our loved ones. A cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, at any time, at any age. It’s crucial that everyone knows what to do in that situation. Knowing how to perform CPR could ultimately help save a life.” 

Cardiac arrest is a medical emergency where the heart stops pumping blood around the body. More than 40,000 people experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the UK each year, but early CPR and defibrillation can more than double the chances of survival.  

Toolstation partnered with the BHF in January to champion heart health for Toolstation colleagues as well as within the trade sector. The collaboration aims to increase awareness of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors among tradespeople, while also raising vital funds to help support the BHF’s lifesaving research. It will also see Toolstation committed to training all of its colleagues in CPR, using RevivR. 

It comes as research revealed that two in three UK tradespeople (63%) say they know a colleague who has been affected by cardiovascular disease or had a heart attack or cardiac arrest, but nearly half of tradespeople (49%) say they have never spoken to a doctor about their own heart health*.
