Wickes Opens in Former Homebase Unit in Saffron Walden

Wickes has officially opened its new store in Saffron Walden today (18th September), marking the first store opening of the year and the latest step in the retailer’s continued investment in its store network. The new store was opened by the Mayor of Saffron Walden, Cllr Jeanette Curtis, at the site of the former Homebase, giving the location a new lease of life as part of Wickes’ ongoing expansion.

The new store features a 14,990 sq ft ground floor, including a 1,360 sq ft warehouse, a 1,890 sq ft Outdoor Project Centre (OPC), and a dedicated 3,340 sq ft showroom on the mezzanine. The Kitchen and Bathroom showroom showcases an all-new display designed to inspire every home project, whatever the budget. Customers can explore a wide range of products including solar panels, benefit from a paint mixing service, browse the small garden centre, and receive expert guidance. The store also features 102 rooftop solar panels, with a combined capacity of just over 52kW. The system is expected to generate approximately 50,700kWh of renewable electricity every year, helping to reduce the store’s reliance on grid electricity and associated costs and carbon emissions.

In-store Design Consultants are on hand to provide Wickes’ free Kitchen and Bathroom design service, helping customers plan with confidence, while the trusted Wickes installation service ensures a smooth finish. Customers can also make use of 15-minute Click & Collect and the new Rapid Delivery service, offering the convenience of having local orders delivered directly to their door within three hours, seven days a week, for an additional £6 delivery fee. 

To celebrate the launch, customers can enjoy 15% off in-store from 2nd to 4th October. Local trade professionals can stock up on a wide range including timber, power tools, and cement, from trusted names such as Bosch, Blue Circle, and Knauf, with TradePro members saving 10% on every purchase alongside exclusive perks, fuel savings, and ongoing rewards.

Team members from the new store have already supported the "Dig It" community allotment, supplying a shed, gravel, paving slabs, and additional materials for its wildlife sensory garden.
