Wren Kitchens Closes US Business
Wren Kitchens has confirmed it has completely withdrawn from the US market to focus on expanding the UK business.
KBB Review published a statement from the company:
“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the US market and focus investment on accelerating our core UK business which is experiencing double digit growth.
“The US business, a separate legal entity from the UK which is unaffected by this decision, was growing from a small base – accounting for around 4% of our Group’s overall turnover. Its future success however relied on expanding our US retail estate. Despite our best efforts sadly we could not reach agreeable terms that would enable us to do that.
“We have therefore reluctantly taken the decision to appoint a Trustee who will manage our exit from the US market, in line with US regulations. We regret the impact this decision will have on our US colleagues – who we have been informed of our decision – and our customers and thank both of them for their support. We will now focus on growing our UK business with fifteen new showrooms and the launch of new product categories already planned for this year.”
Wren first announced its US store and manufacturing facility plans in February 2020, confirming its intention to open its first store later that year. In November 2020, Wren announced the opening of its Milford, Connecticut, store, and shared that it had invested $15.4million into a state-of-the-art, 252,000 sq.ft. manufacturing facility in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. In addition to standalone showrooms, Wren established a strategic partnership with The Home Depot in September 2024 to operate within a number of its stores - these concessions have also closed.
Social media posts from individuals who claim to be Wren employees suggests staff affected by the mass layoffs and showroom closures were blindsided by the news, and were called into a 3pm meeting to learn of the decision. One poster said that they had received an email the from IT prior to the announcement, advising that maintenance would be taking place in the middle of the day that would affect all systems.
The Wren US website displays the follwoing message:
