B&Q announces closure of Newark store

The DIY chain B&Q has announced the closure of its Newark branch as part of a national programme of store closures announced earlier this year. The home improvement operator plans to close a total of 60 UK stores between now and 2017, which includes the branch in Newark.
B&Q is currently consulting with store staff over their possible re-location to other stores including B&Q's sister company Screwfix. A B&Q spokesperson advised : “We have let colleagues at our Newark store know that their store is one of those planned for closure.
"Our focus for the coming weeks is on redeploying as many colleagues as we can within B&Q and the Kingfisher Group.”
Despite its plans to close B&Q stores, the parent company Kingfisher has said it will open up to 200 new Screwfix outlets over the next two years.
