British Garden Centres Reports Strong Sales and Profit Growth

British Garden Centres, the UK’s largest family-run garden centre group, has reported a solid financial performance for 2025, with sales increasing by almost 30%.  Favourable spring weather, continued investment across its existing portfolio and the opening of eight new garden centres were the contributing factors.

Woodthorpe Hall Garden Centres Ltd saw the acquisition of Gosforth, Shinfield, Gloucester, Northampton, Havant, Heighley Gate, Hayes and Rugby, taking the combined estate of Woodthorpe Hall Garden Centres Limited and BGC South Limited, trading together as British Garden Centres, to 80 centres across the UK, recording combined sales of £223.2 million, an increase of £51 million on 2024. Both newly opened and established centres contributed to the year’s strong performance.

British Garden Centres did not just grow in 2025; it became more profitable, with EBITDA rising to £18.7 million combined. Operating profit reached £15.1 million, resulting in a margin of 6.8% and profit before tax increased by almost 60% to £12.2 million. Gross margin rose to 53.3% in 2025, up from 51.7% in 2024.

British Garden Centres (BGC) is the UK’s largest family-owned garden centre group with 80 centres around the country. The group is owned and led by the Stubbs family, who also own and operate Woodthorpe Leisure Park in Lincolnshire.

BGC was launched in 1990 with the opening of Woodthorpe Garden Centre by brothers Charles and Robert Stubbs. Since 2018, it has expanded rapidly with the acquisition of garden centres, allowing it to grow from its heartland to the business it is now, with 80 garden centres spread from Carmarthen to Ramsgate, Wimborne to East Durham.

The group has a team of over 3,500 colleagues working across the garden centres, restaurants, growing nurseries, distribution centres, Woodthorpe Leisure Park, and Woody’s Restaurant & Bar.
