Magnet Partners with Trussell to Help Fill More Kitchens Across the UK
- New charity partnership will support Trussell through food donations, fundraising, volunteering and kitchen donations for local food banks.
Kitchen specialist Magnet has announced a new charity partnership with anti-poverty charity Trussell, supporting its work to help people and communities facing hunger and hardship across the UK.
Through the partnership, Magnet will support Trussell in a number of ways, including setting up food donation points across its network, colleague-led fundraising and volunteering as well as providing new kitchens where needed to help improve food storage and preparation spaces for local Trussell food banks.
The partnership forms part of Magnet’s new ESG framework, Better with Magnet, which focuses on the positive difference the business can make for the people, homes and communities it serves. Aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the framework sets out actions to support stronger communities, better opportunities and a more sustainable future.
To mark the launch of the partnership, Magnet colleagues took part in a month-long step challenge throughout May, virtually walking from Magnet’s headquarters in Darlington to Trussell’s headquarters in Salisbury and back in a race to raise funds for the charity.
Colleagues have already raised almost £4,000 through the challenge, which could help provide emergency food to over 300 people facing hunger.
Sophie Rose, CEO of Magnet, said: “At Magnet, we believe no one should face an empty kitchen, but we know that for many people, having food in the cupboard and a safe, welcoming place to turn to is not something they can take for granted.
Trussell supports people at some of the hardest moments in their lives, and for a business built around kitchens and homes, that connection feels incredibly important to us. This partnership gives us a meaningful way to use our nationwide network, products and the passion of our people to support communities across the UK.
We’re proud to partner with such a fantastic cause and look forward to working together to help more people out of crisis.”
Joannna Freeborough, Head of Partnerships at Trussell said: “We are extremely grateful that Magnet and their colleagues have chosen Trussell to be its first ever charity partner. Like us, Magnet believes that no one’s cupboards should be empty, which is why food banks can’t be.
“Every day, people are forced to turn to a food bank because they don’t have enough money to live on. Last year alone, food banks in the Trussell community provided 2.6 million emergency food parcels to people facing hunger and hardship.
“As hunger continues to grip communities across the UK, we need everyone to play their part to end the need for food banks for good. Through pledging to fundraise for us, Magnet will help food banks to keep providing vital support while we work towards a future where no one needs to turn to a food bank to get by.”
Through the partnership, Magnet will support both national initiatives and local food banks, helping to raise awareness, collect essential food items and provide support where it can make a difference.
Better with Magnet is Magnet’s new strategic framework for ESG, encompassing everything from sustainable timber sourcing and waste reduction to renewable energy transition, workforce education and training, and community and sustainability initiatives.
