Marley Partners With Mental Health Charity TOUGH TO TALK

  • Marley launches winter wellness campaign in collaboration with mental health charity

Marley has partnered with TOUGH TO TALK, a pioneering charity dedicated to breaking the stigma around mental health in men.

With research from the Chartered Institute of Building, highlighting 94% of construction workers have experienced stress, and a further 60% experiencing depression over the last 12 months, TOUGH TO TALK aims to support men undergoing mental health struggles, signposting them to the help and resources available.

The partnership is the latest extension of Marley’s annual Winter Wellness campaign, which will see the business extend the support it offers to construction workers around safe working practices to also include tips and guidance on protecting their mental wellbeing too.

Along with advice on safe winter working, Marley will also be producing a Winter Wellness guide for construction workers and its internal colleagues.

Daniel Redfern, Head of Marketing Communications at Marley, says: “When it comes to the winter there’s a lot of support for physical safety, but it’s important that we also recognise how important mental health is too. Dark mornings, cold weather, and fatigue can all impact on our motivation which can subsequently impact our mental health. We are immensely proud to support the work of TOUGH TO TALK as part of Marley’s wider Winter Wellness campaign which aims to drive meaningful connection with roofers, trade merchants, and the wider construction industry so they are better equipped to recognise some of the challenges they face.

“From battling harsh weather, to setting themselves up for the day ahead, our Winter Wellness campaign is all about equipping construction workers with the tools, tips and support they need to take on the winter with confidence.”

Founder of TOUGH TO TALK, Steve Whittle, comments: “It’s an unfortunate fact that those working in construction are much more likely to battle mental health challenges. So, it is great that leading construction companies like Marley are investing time and resources to highlight the issue.

“Unfortunately, tradesmen are not particularly good about recognising their mental health struggles and reaching out for support and help. At TOUGHT TO TALK, we aim to fill the void and connect in an authentic and meaningful way so that those across the construction industry feel able to seek support. From informative courses to Tough Talks and everyday tips, we try to provide practical and relatable assistance as and when people need it.”

Daniel Redfern concluded: “We want to help the team at TOUGH TO TALK around mental health in the construction industry and re-educate the sector on the importance of opening up and having those difficult conversations. The work of the charity is vital, we want to ensure that as many construction workers as possible are aware of it and the support it offers.”
