Travis Perkins Colleagues to Undertake Endurance Challenges for Charity

Travis Perkins - Chipping Norton fundraising challenge

Two team members from a Cotswolds Travis Perkins branch will be pushing their bodies to the absolute limit this April as they tackle two momentous sporting challenges to raise money for charity.

Eddy Webb and Brian Kemp, who both work at the Chipping Norton branch of the leading UK builders’ merchant, will take on huge endurance-based sporting challenges to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society, Travis Perkins’ nominated charity.

Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer and one in three people born today will develop dementia in their lifetime. Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity – they provide help and hope to everyone affected by dementia.

Eddy has worked for the business for 10 years and he is currently a yard manager at the branch. The 32-year-old is set to run a staggering two-and-a-half marathons in a day while setting himself an ambitious task of completing the 100km run within 12 hours.

Brian is the branch manager at Travis Perkins Chipping Norton, having been with the business for the last three years. The 56-year-old is planning to cycle 100km in a day on hilly terrain with the intention to complete the feat in under five hours.

Both are set to complete their challenges on Friday, April 10th with the duo to be joined by colleagues from the branch at various stages as they aim to raise as much money as possible.

Eddy said: “This challenge came about because both of us are well into our sports. I do a lot of running and Brian is a committed cyclist.

“We wanted to raise some money for Alzheimer’s Society, which we know offers life-changing support to people who are battling with dementia. We felt this was a good way to do it as we can get the rest of the team members at Chipping Norton Travis Perkins involved too.

“I have done an ultramarathon before, but the furthest I have done in a day has been 58km, so this is going to be a significant step up. I plan to do my challenge in stints, with each one ending back at the branch.

“I have been running some big distances two or three times a week to help me train for the event, but as it gets closer, I am starting to feel a little more nervous.

“What is going to make it even harder is the terrain. It is very hilly where the branch is, which is going to be hard for me and Brian to navigate.”

Colleagues Josh Wilson, Patric Brown, Alistair Brown, Abbie Larner and Jordan Bowden are also set to play their part, with the challenge becoming a branch-wide team effort.

Alzheimer’s Society Corporate Account Manager Hannah Pennock said: “We are so grateful that Travis Perkins have chosen to support Alzheimer’s Society. Each hour people like Eddy and Brian generously give to fundraise for us, every event they take part in, every pound they donate, they’re making a life-changing difference to people living with dementia.

“Alzheimer’s Society provides vital support to people living with dementia, funds groundbreaking research and campaigns to make dementia the priority it should be. It will take a society to beat dementia.

“There are around a million people living with dementia in the UK including 2,000 in The Cotswolds. We all have a role to play in ending the devastation dementia causes. We simply can’t reach everyone who needs us without the continued support of our incredible fundraisers like Travis Perkins.”
