Wyevale Nurseries’ HTA stand to be 100% new plants

Antirrhinum ‘Pretty in Pink’ - Wyevale Nurseries 725 x 500

THE Wyevale Nurseries’ stand at the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) National Plant Show this month (June 21 & 22, 2016) will be all about its new plants this year.

Following the appointment of Ben Gregory as New Products Development Manager, the nursery has been fully focussed on bringing new and innovative plants to market.

Adam Dunnett, Sales and Marketing Director at Wyevale Nurseries in Hereford, said: “At the National Plant Show in 2015 we walked away with the prestigious Best Stand in Show Award with our inspirational ‘Inside Out’ stand, this year the stand is all about our new plants.

“With 37 new plant promotions and a host of trial plants to launch we have no room on our stand for anything else. There will be a dramatic display of the new introductions to our promotional offering for 2017 and an insight into products in development for 2018.

“Two new plants, which will be at our stand at the show will be Geranium ‘Purple Ghost’ and Antirrhinum ‘Pretty in Pink’. The Geranium is dark purple and has feathery foliage, which provides the perfect foil for the ghostly lilac tinted white flowers. It is a gorgeous little promotional plant worthy of a spot in the border or in a container, where it will flower all summer long.

“The Antirrhinum ‘Pretty in Pink’ is an outstanding new perennial with bright pink tubular flowers. It will flower all summer long until the first frosts. Hardy to -6ºc. Antirrhinum ‘Pretty in Pink’ is attractive to butterflies and bees and was included in Chelsea’s Top 20 Plants of the Year for 2016.”

Wyevale Nurseries is one of the largest family-run wholesale nurseries in the UK. It was established in 1930 by Harry Williamson, a horticulturist and entrepreneur. It became the company it is today under the leadership of his son, Peter, who sadly passed away in 2011.

The Williamsons’ saw the opportunity to sell their product to an undeveloped retail market, creating one of the first garden centres, followed by a chain. In 1987, the retail side needed to expand and the 19 garden centres were sold as a PLC.

The family then turned its focus to Wyevale Nurseries Ltd. It continues to be a family-run business with ownership and joint chairmanship currently being held by the third generation, Heather and Simeon Williamson, with plans for the fourth generation to takeover in the future.

Wyevale Nurseries has a significant product range and is regularly introducing new plants. It offers a large variety of trees, shrubs, hedging, herbaceous and specimen plants to garden centres, landscape contractors, local authorities, foresters and landowners.
