A landmark new scheme has been announced to focus on protecting UK homeowners, whilst safeguarding industry standards and best practice across the raised loft boarding trade.

The first and only initiative of its kind to be endorsed by TrustMark – a UK government-backed quality mark for tradespeople, the TrustMark Loft Boarding Installer Scheme has been launched by LoftZone – the UK’s leading raised loft board provider.

Managed by Diversity Management Services, it aims to provide homeowners with a clearly signposted benchmark for quality and safe tradespersons. The programme also establishes an industry-standard framework of recognition, credibility and visibility. LoftZone are pleased to be the UK’s only provider approved by the BBA, meaning all installations are assured to be of the highest quality.

The launch also addresses any potential concerns over loft boarding installations, where improper work can cause damaged insulation, reduced energy efficiency and safety hazards. In creating a national standard, the scheme will help installers to distinguish themselves in a competitive market.

Dave Raval, Insulation Expert and CEO of LoftZone comments: “The announcement of this scheme is a pivotal moment for the loft boarding industry. For the first time, providers have a clear, established framework that recognises only the highest standards of workmanship. This is about providing the trader with a strong voice and ensuring consistent quality in loft boarding projects across the UK.

“My advice to installers is to get accredited early. Being part of a government-recognised programme strengthens your credibility with customers and positions your business to benefit from future market growth – such as the Warm Homes Plan.”

All scheme-accredited installers must use British Board of Agrément (BBA) approved raised loft boarding equipment – ensuring that materials used are fit for purpose and meet the highest safety and performance standards. Each installation under the scheme is also protected with a five-year guarantee.

For installers, the scheme offers other immediate benefits too. For example, the use of the TrustMark badge on uniforms, websites and marketing materials. Traders are also automatically enrolled into LoftZones’ and TrustMarks’ online directories, providing a steady pipeline of new business leads. Access to independent dispute mediation – provided by Diversity Management Services – is included too, should companies struggle to resolve disputes directly.

It is also anticipated that membership to the scheme may help installers secure government-backed financing for insulation contracts under the Warm Home Plans. To maintain high standards, installers must adhere to a strict code of conduct and operations manual including regular audits of their work.

Consumer benefits include enhanced protection through a network of trusted providers and integrated access to trading standards, should they be required. TrustMark also share free advice and information, empowering consumers to make informed decisions.
