The Screwfix Foundation Awards Over 1m To Charities Amid COVID Crisis

Thanks to Screwfix customers and colleagues, The Screwfix Foundation has awarded over £1m in grants to charities and not for profit organisations across the UK during the COVID19 crisis.

The Screwfix Foundation has awarded more than 200 local charities and not for profit organisations including Papworth Trust, Save the Family and Don’t Lose Hope with grants of up to £5,000. These donations will enable charities across the UK to fix, repair, maintain and improve their facilities at a time when many have been unable to carry out their own fundraising activities.

The Screwfix Foundation also awarded additional funding to support two charities with large projects. Helen & Douglas House, is a charity that provides hospice care for babies and children and Rising Sun Domestic Violence & Abuse provides services for adults, children and families.

As well as supporting local charities and not for profit organisations, The Screwfix Foundation awarded £100k to National Partner, Macmillan Cancer Support. 

Screwfix customers have rounded up their orders on Screwfix.com through the Digital Charity Box, Pennies. These generous micro-donations have meant that The Screwfix Foundation has continued to raise money for charities and not for profit organisations across the UK when they have needed it most.

The Screwfix Foundation Trustee and Screwfix CEO John Mewett said: “The generosity of our customers throughout this crisis has been phenomenal. Your record-breaking donations have helped us to support so many more community charities and not for profit organisations with grants. We’d like to say a huge thank you to all of our customers and colleagues for allowing us to award these fantastic charities, who go above and beyond for their communities. Your kindness has truly blown us away.

Alison Hutchinson CBE, CEO of Pennies said: "The response from Screwfix customers during the pandemic has been nothing short of inspiring. The Screwfix community has proven just how powerful this way of giving is and has broken records in the process - with customers regularly making a quarter of a million micro-donations a week during the COVID19 pandemic. Lynda Thomas, Chief Executive, Macmillan Cancer Support Cancer Support said:
“Thank you so much to The Screwfix Foundation for the amazing £100,000 donation to Macmillan Cancer Support Cancer Support as part of the “Thanks a Million” campaign. This money will help us support more people living with cancer at this unprecedented and uncertain time. It really will make a huge difference.”

The Screwfix Foundation was launched in 2013 to support charities in need to fix, repair, maintain and improve their facilities. 

In over seven years, the Screwfix Foundation has seen an increasing number of charities spanning the UK applying for a grant of up to a maximum of £5,000. A unique element of the Foundation is that the funding is solely awarded to charities to help them improve their facilities, so that they can provide better services to those in need.

The Foundation has awarded more than £4m in grants of up to £5k, supporting more than
one thousand charities.
