Two more new stores for Screwfix

DIY chain Screwfix is opening two new stores in the North-East, creating 24 jobs.

The Yeovil-based retailer now has 359 stores nationwide after opening a new outlet at Morgan House, in Guisborough, Teesside, creating 12 jobs.

Another dozen posts will be created when Screwfix officially opens its second Sunderland shop on Leechmere Industrial Estate this month.

Morgan House store manager Scott McDonald said: “We’ve created 12 new vacancies and have employed local people from around the Guisborough area.

“Our new team includes people of all ages and levels of experience, but the most important requirement is that they have the right attitude and can offer superb customer service.“

Screwfix claims to have more than 11,000 products stocked in each store and anything not stocked can be ordered and delivered in to that store the next day.

Customers can select products from a catalogue and use a click and collect service to check they are in stock before collecting from the store.

The firm, which already has another store in Inkerman Street on Low Southwick Industrial Estate in Sunderland is expanding its Wearside operation.

Store manager Dennis Younghusband said: “I’m confident that we’ve got a great location here.

“My team and I have already been out and about getting to know local businesses and tradesmen and we’ve been really pleased with how supportive everybody has been.“

As part of the Sunderland store’s opening on Thursday, 14th August, tradesmen and DIYers are all invited to demonstrate their skills in a free-to-enter screw drilling competition.

The person with the fastest time will win a 40inch Toshiba flat screen TV.
